PRESS RELEASE – 25/02/05 On the 10th day of the EPA oral hearing, Mr Nick Loughnan, Cork Environmental Alliance, advised the hearing that The Hazid Report provided by Indaver is inadequate and needs to be completely reviewed. The very first item to be tested in the report was flooding and the Report does not deal with it adequately, as it states in Section 4.2.4 Floods: “Although the location for the Indaver site at the part of the site nearest the sea is only 3 metres above high tide level there are no records of flooding of the site caused by inundation by the sea. There are no scenarios considered in which the water level could inundate the site.” Everyone in Cork was aware of the significant flooding on the site on 27th October last which rose to 2.85 metres OD, using Malin Head datum, However, Indaver did not even think it was significant enough for them to measure the flooding on the site. Mary O’Leary of CHASE would like to know if the County Council is satisfied with this Report. “Indeed we demand that the Hazid Report which underpins Health & Safety Regulations for the plant be reviewed by the Health & Safety Authority as a matter of urgency, before a final decision is made on the safety and suitability of the site. Conor Jones, Project Manager for Indaver, told the Hearing that he is one of a number of project managers at this stage, but is unsure who will be running the plant in the future. He confirmed that no-one in Indaver Ireland has any experience of running an incinerator plant, and that the parent company, Indaver NV, has no experience of operating the type of Fluidised Bed incinerator proposed for Ringaskiddy.
