PRESS RELEASE– 24/02/05
OBJECTORS AT ORAL HEARING STILL WAITING FOR REPRESENTATIVE
FROM EPA

Mary Kelly, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency is attending a conference in Cork Institute of Technology on Business & Sustainability today. CHASE asked Mr Jonathon Derham, Chairman of the Hearing, to extend an invitation to Ms Kelly to attend the Oral Hearing, but he declined to pass on the invitation.

The continued absence of the Board of the EPA, who ultimately have the final decision making power on the Waste Licence, is a major source of frustration to the objectors.

Questioning of John Ahern of Indaver is continuing for a second day. He admitted that his staff did not take measurements of the flood levels on the incinerator site when severe flooding occured on 27 October 04. Site flooding is one of the major exclusion criteria for site selection according to World Health Organisation selection guidelines and a matter of serious concern to CHASE.
