CHASE Press Release - 20-06-06 Mary O Leary Chairperson of CHASE was presented
with the Lady Mayor’s Award at the Commodore Hotel on Monday
19th of June in recognition of the group’s significant work
in opposing the building of two incinerators at Ringaskiddy in Cork
Harbour. As part of its work the group has campaigned to highlight the problems that such a plant will have on the communities in the Harbour area. These include the unsuitability of the site, public safety, proximity to sensitive populations, and the health and environmental risks associated with locating this plant in such a densely populated area. At policy level CHASE has made presentations to the Irish Planners Association National Conference and made written submissions to the Cork Waste Management Plant, the National Hazardous Waste Plan, Cork Co. Council Development Plan, the Draft Waste Management Plans for Kerry, Limerick and Clare. Recently the CHASE submission to the debate on the National Infrastructure Bill was used by Fine Gael when they made their contributions to the Dail Debate. CHASE will continue to campaign on behalf of the residents of Cork to oppose the building of the incinerators and appreciates the support from the Community. ”We are delighted to receive this award as it confirms to us that the people of Cobh are still as committed as ever to the campaign and we look forward to their continued support in the future,” a spokeswoman said. --- ENDS ---- For further information: Mary Hurley, CHASE PRO, 021 4813070 086 8162448 |
