TODAY AT THE HIGH COURT
RINGASKIDDY INCINERATOR - High
Court Application adjourned for fourth
time
PRESS
RELEASE July
2nd, 2004
The
High Court application being made by a group of 11 individuals and Ringaskiddy
Residents Association Ltd in the hopes of quashing planning for the Ringaskiddy
Incinerator has been adjourned for a fourth time
and will be listed in 2 weeks (July
16) for
mention.
An Bord Pleanala have said that they almost have the
preparations for their case complete.
A spokesperson
for CHASE said "We hope that the government can see that
the reason this case had to be taken is the same reason that
Fianna Fail suffered substantial losses in the local
elections, i.e. a failure by central government to listen
to the electorate.
Planning for
this incinerator was:
- Formally
objected to by 30,000 people
- Rejected by
Cork County Councillors
- Recommended
for Rejection by An Bord Pleanalas Senior Planning Inspector
on an unprecedented 14 grounds
- Overturned by
a 9-1 majority by An Bord Pleanala on the grounds of National
Policy
We hope that the
government will now listen to communities and look at their
proposals to reduce waste and implement sustainable non burn
solutions instead of continuing the pro-incineration spin
which they have given us to
date."
