CHASE Press Release - 05-05-07
CHASE Asks Community to CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT
“Vote ONLY for Parties with NO INCINERATION in their Party Policies”
___________________________________________________

This Morning candidates from parties with No Incineration in their Party Policies (FG, Green, Labour, Sinn Fein) turned out at the launch of the CHASE Election Flier to deliver the message to vote only for parties with NO INCINERATION in their party policies, and leave everyone else off the ballot sheet completely. These Parties are Fine Gael, The Green Party, Labour and Sinn Fein.

Election candidates from these Parties from Cork South Central and Cork East (the two constituencies most affected by the proposal for a 100,000 tonne Toxic Waste Incinerator and 100,000 tonne municipal waste incinerator at Ringaskiddy) were present at the launch.

Present from Cork South Central were:

  • Dan Boyle (Green Party)
  • Jerry Buttimore (FG)
  • Deirdre Clune (FG)
  • Simon Coveney (FG)
  • Ciaran Lynch (Labour)

Present from Cork East present were:

  • Sarah Iremonger (Green Party)
  • Sandra McLellan (Sinn Fein)
  • David Stanton (FG)

CHASE Chairperson Mary O’Leary said, “Incineration is still Government policy. It is clear that to change Government Policy, we must change the Government.

This campaign has been running for 6 years, during which time the current government has:

  • Created Market Opportunities for the Incinerator Industry
  • Eroded Local Democracy
  • Appointed Incinerator Lobbyists to State Boards
  • Ignored mounting evidence of health, environmental and global warming effects of incineration
  • Ignored viable alternatives proposed to avoid the need for incineration

We are now asking people to vote only for parties with No Incineration in their Party Policies. Transfer to these candidates only and leave everyone else off the ballot sheet completely.”

CHASE will distribute 10,000 Fliers in the run up to the election (click here for copy). This will be backed up by a poster campaign.
