27/10/2004 - 1:22:17 PM Solicitor slams latest delay in incinerator challenge A solicitor representing local residents challenging the construction of a toxic waste incinerator in Cork Harbour has criticised the latest delay in the High Court case. A four-day challenge to An Bord Pleanala's approval of the controversial incinerator in Ringaskiddy was due to go ahead today, but was postponed because no judge was available. The case, which has already been adjourned several times, could now be delayed until the New Year. Solicitor Joe Noonan, who represents the applicants, said the latest setback was a sign of how clogged the courts have become and he called for the matter to be urgently addressed. “People have taken time off work, time away from their families to come up, and here we are with the judge apologising to us, saying that he's terribly sorry, but there's simply no judge available to hear the case,” he said. “Unfortunately, this isn't by any means an exception to the rule and I think it's time that people asked ‘Why aren't the resources being made available so that people can have a proper listing system.'” |
