Green groups demand explanation of Cork Harbour leak

Environmental groups have demanded an explanation from authorities following the leaking of a huge quantity of caustic soda into Cork Harbour earlier this month.

Local Green Party councillor Dominick Donnelly has claimed that 260 tonnes of the toxic substance were leaked into the harbour on July 1 and 2 from the ADM factory in Ringaskiddy.

He is demanding to know why the Environmental Protection Agency did not make the matter public at the time.

The lobby group Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment also said the lack of information about the leak was undermining local confidence in the EPA.
