Toxic waste incinerator

SIR—Cork people must realise that the Toxic Waste Incinerator permitted by the Environmental Protection Agency for Cork Harbour is, in actual fact, equipment for the processing of toxic substances and hazardous materials (not domestic waste). And toxic means ‘containing poisons’.

Poison goes in, and poison must come out — it doesn’t just magically disappear. Irrespective of what form the end product takes (gas or ash), it will still contain poisons.

Let’s not forget that Dr. Padraic Larkin (EPA Director) confirmed at a public meeting in Carrigaline (August 3, 2005) that ‘accidents will inevitably happen’.

SHAME on the decision makers of the EPA.

Yours faithfully,
Norcott Roberts,
Sydenham Cottage,
Monkstown,
Co. Cork.
